Terry
G. Windrem– Senior Partner
Terry joined The Protectors Group in 1984. Terry is a successful
licensed practitioner who specializes in planning for independent
and family business owners. He has gained the respect of other
professionals such as lawyers and accountants by working as a
team player to provide advice on financial issues, business succession,
estate planning, wealth creation and retirement planning. He has
received the National Quality Award for the Canadian Association
of Insurance and Financial Advisors for 21 consecutive years.
Terry has been the recipient of the Peterborough Readers Choice
Award for Financial Planning and The Protectors Group was named
the Favourite Investment Company of 2003. He is also an invited
member of CALU (The Conference for Advanced Life Underwriting),
which is restricted to individuals who meet high professional
standards. He is a founding member of the Kawartha Rotary Club.
He is active in community fundraising and supportive of the Trent
Valley Literacy Association.
Jaymes
Winch - B.A., CLU, Senior Consultant
Jaymes joined The Protectors Group in 1986. Business owners and
Professionals rely on Jaymes’ advice in the areas of risk
management and estate planning in order to achieve their long-term
financial goals. A Trent University graduate, Jaymes has lived
in Peterborough since 1968. He is an active volunteer in the community
having served on many boards and committees – Member of
United Way’s Charitable Givings Committee, Chair of Finance
for his church’s board, Local Membership chairperson for
the Insurance Association “Advocis” and member of
his church’s Memorial Fund Committee.
Rob
Smith– Associate
Rob joined The Protectors Group in September 1993, after three
years with a major Insurance company. Rob has extensive experience
with Life and Disability Insurance, combined with exposure to
Group Insurance Health issues. A life long Peterborough area resident,
Rob is a member of the Peterborough Old-Timers Hockey League and
active in youth sports with his family.
Don
Shaughnessy– Associate
Don earned a degree in mathematics from the University of Waterloo
in 1968 and stood in the top 20 in Canada in the Chartered Accountants’
entrance exam in 1971. He is a retired partner in a large international
public accounting firm and a partner in a software development
business. Prior to joining the Protectors Group in 1996, he operated
a life insurance agency specializing in tax effective wealth accumulation
and risk management for business owners. With the Protectors Group,
he adds business succession and estate planning. Don has developed
and presented seminars for numerous groups including the Ontario
Institute of Chartered Accountants, Life Underwriters Schools,
The Canadian Bar Association, The Canadian Association of Chartered
Life Underwriters, CIBC, Peel Institute of Applied Finance, various
agricultural organizations, trade organizations, businesses, clubs,
and national and local Chambers of Commerce. He has had published
more than 200 articles on financial planning. Don and wife Margaret
live in Peterborough and are active in matters relating to education
and poverty.
Brian
Mackenzie - Associate
Brian joined The Protectors Group in 2004, bringing with him
25 years of related experience. A 15-year resident of Peterborough,
he recently retired from his management role with an international
financial firm where he specialized in recruiting, training, and
counseling financial professionals. He has been a Chartered Financial
Planner (CFP) since 1993. In 2000 he was honored as the first
Canadian to be awarded the Chartered Leadership Fellow designation
(CLF) by the American College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. Brian's
extensive leadership experience provides a unique perspective
to his work as a Life and Financial Planning Consultant, offered
on a referral basis to Protectors' clients. Brian takes a holistic
approach to financial planning, which gives clients the vision
they need do what is important to them-financially, and personally.

Brian and his wife Lois are involved in local church, music and
public service work. They are also active in inter-cultural relations,
especially in the Russian and Korean communities.
Denise
Irwin– Administrator
Denise joined The Protectors Group during its inception in 1984.
Denise has brought administrative expertise to The Protectors
Group, after four years in Public Relations with a large Toronto
firm and eight successful years in Customer Service with two major
insurance companies. She is continually involved in ongoing education
and therefore, is skilled and knowledgeable to implement “state
of the art” business technology in The Protectors Group
business office.
Barbara
Lynch– Client Service Representative
Barb joined The Protectors Group in 1990 after thirteen years
with a major Insurance company. Barb’s outstanding ability
to communicate effectively with our clients, superior design and
presentation skills combined with her broad insurance background
make her an effective member of The Protectors Group. A life long
resident of Peterborough, Barb and her family are strong community
advocates.
Heather
Stelzer– Reg. N., B.A., Business Development
Heather joined The Protectors Group in 2003. She has held several
progressively responsible public and private sector positions,
most notably in Senior Management for an International Health
Care Organization. Having also owned her own business, Heather
has a strong understanding of management, accountability, marketing
and customer service. She is an active member in the community
and is a four-time recipient of the City of Peterborough Community
Betterment Award. She is currently co-chair of the Peterborough
C.C.A.C. and a board member of several local organizations.
